Maintains UNIX server operations, including but not limited to:
providing user security; backup and restoration of files; o\s upgrades;
monitoring server usage; and handles performance tuning of both
the hardware and network operating systems. Maintains the Internet/Intranet
architecture and VPN (i.e.: firewalls, routers, switches, etc**.)
This includes, but is not limited to, troubleshooting, performance
tuning and ensuring prevention of access by unauthorized individuals.
Evaluates and corrects network problems as they occur, ensuring
the network meets the needs of the company by communicating with
users and participating in major programs within the organization.
Maintains DNS/DHCP servers for the internal network and maintains
DNS servers and information for external networks in conjunction
with outside parties which maintain hardware on a weekly basis.
Creates and updates documentation including Standard Operating Procedures,
Project Plans, Network diagrams, etc**. Develops Internet/Intranet
standards within the enterprise by communicating with other Company
personnel involved in Internet/Intranet development, researching
trade publications and attending technical seminars. Purchases and
maintains hardware for servers and workstations, including analyzing
and evaluating new technologies, in conjunction with departmental
managers when necessary; places purchase orders, installs and tests
new equipment. Advises and supports the design and development of
the network operating systems and topology as needed.
Education
High school diploma Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information
Technology preferred Experience With a degree, three years of experience
with Internet/Intranet deployments and UNIX hardware and software
maintenance, such as installing hardware components, loading software
and network operating systems. In lieu of degree, five consecutive
years of recent identical experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Licenses
Advanced knowledge of UNIX (Solaris version 2.8,9, and 10 preferred)
Jumpstart, Perl Scripting, Logdomain, DNS, DHCP Advanced knowledge
of network security, system security, firewalls, and VPNs
Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to analyze
and resolve day-to-day problems Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to direct less experienced personnel and/or consultants
Ability and willingness to learn and further their knowledge Experience
with some database technology
